Oak Cafe — Fail Brunch
Randomly selecting a restaurant for Sunday brunch can be risky, and this weekend the gamble did not pay off. Our (random) choice = was the Oak Wine Bar & Cafe on Graham Ave. I was lured in by the appeal of Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes, but the actual menu item that was presented was reminiscent of wet cardboard. Allow me to summarize my experience: Junk.
I didn’t bother to take any photos because I didn’t want to remember how bad this brunch was.

their french toast with caramelized pears and pomegranate sauce also sounded fantastic, but it was made from store bought sliced bread and lacked the sweetness you’d expect from any well made french toast.

Don’t write off the Oak! Dinner at Oak Cafe is very nice. I had a really nice chicken dish with a citrus cous cous side and it was amazing. My girlfriend had the shrimp and grits and loved it.
I agree with you about the pancakes. The description is amazing on the menu, but the cakes themselves taste like stiff buckwheat. I recently had the pancakes at Smith Street’s Cafe Lulu and they were AMAZING!

one more thing…
I just told my girlfriend that I made this comment, and she wanted me to add that when I ordered the pancakes and hated them, she had ordered something that had different stuff on toast with egg salad and she thought it was great tasting and very high quality.
The vibe in there is also very nice if you just want to get an espresso and read the paper – and not be in a deluge of 20 something lamesters.
One last note, I used the word AMAZING too many times in my initial post. Forgive me.

I disagree with Sam. Oak Cafe sucked.
